Ole Miss Football Has A Serious Fyre Festival Situation On Their Hands
Dropping attendance at College Football games is an issue many schools are facing. One of those schools is Ole Miss, who has seen attendance drop, even from students. To increase the experience for them, Ole Miss decided to build party decks in the student section. Here are the original renderings for the party decks:
SOURCE-To provide more in-game social opportunities for the student body, Ole Miss is testing party decks at the top of the student section in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for the 2019 season. The eight temporary party decks – four on each side of the videoboard – will feature awnings for shade, televisions, charging stations, fans and pub tables along with plenty of space for students to socialize and watch the game. Each platform has a capacity of 100 students.
That above quote was from an Ole Miss website on August 13th, 2019. The idea was ambitious, but also if done correctly, I'm sure more students will go into the game instead of just tailgating.
This weekend, Ole Miss takes on Arkansas in their first home game of the season. The party decks were supposed to be ready. Turns out they are not ready, like at all.
This is the Fyre Festival of college football.
Here is what they were supposed to look like:
And let's just say, they won't look like they tomorrow when Ole Miss takes on Arkansas in Oxford.
I can't think of something more Ole Miss than guaranteeing something grand, but ending up disappointing. An expectation to be at the top of the SEC for years to come with Hugh Freeze? Here's a massive cheating scandal combined with a Hugh Freeze sex scandal. Expectation of a party deck for the 2019 season? Here are some tents on the bleachers. Enjoy, students! Beggars can't be choosers!
