If You're Complaining About The Game Of Thrones Guys Getting A Star Wars Trilogy, I Hate You

Back in February of 2018, Disney/Lucasfilm announced that Game Of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were slated to write/produce a brand new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, separate, of course, from the Skywalker Saga. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was thrilled beyond belief. I hadn’t even STARTED watching Game of Thrones yet, and I was jazzed up about this, knowing the legends and aura that these two have built up over the last near-decade.

Clem blogged it, and wrote…

HOLY FUCKING SHIT. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. I’m trying not to geek out over Star Wars news like Robbie Fox and the other Star Warriors do but HOLY FUCKING SHIT. This news is like your two best friends hooking up to hopefully create a beautiful baby together.

Everyone was fucking STOKED.

Some time passes, and Game of Thrones’ final season premieres, and everyone decides they hate it. The Battle of Winterfell was too dark, there’s no explanation for who The Night King was or what his motivations are, Khaleesi goes full on Mad Queen, there’s an out of place cup in a shot that absolutely nobody noticed, Jon Snow doesn’t pet his dog goodbye, it’s a whole thing.

Personally, I’ve enjoyed Season 8 tremendously, but completely understand everybody’s gripes. I think I’d probably share some – if not all – of them if I had watched the show for the past few years and had more of an emotional investment than I do. Still, I’m absolutely ecstatic about their Star Wars trilogy, especially with the hope that they’ll be the ones to take a stab at the ‘Knights of the Old Republic’ era, and today it was made official that their flicks are on deck after ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ in December.

Lights, Camera, Barstool tweeted this news out, annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd the mentions were a complete dumpster fire. Everyone, seemingly, in unison, is completely, firmly, one thousand percent against this idea now, because FIVE EPISODES OF TELEVISION DID NOT GO THE WAY THE WANTED THEM TO GO.

Seriously, take a gander at some of these mentions…

You woulda thought Disney just handed the keys to the franchise over to Joel Schumacher and Michael Bay and told em to go nuts.

So here’s where I, infuriated at the absolute toxicity and overreaction these buffoons were displaying, voiced my opinion on the matter…

Simply put – David Benioff and D.B. Weiss gave us all seven seasons and almost ten years worth of unbelievable entertainment before attempting to stick a near-impossible landing with the final six episodes, and you Littlefinger ass fucks shouldn’t turn your backs on them and write them off completely because they made a few choices you didn’t agree with. This narrative that they “got lazy” and “stopped caring” about what will ultimately stand as their greatest legacy this season is ABSURD, as is the idea that they’re no longer responsible for anything adapted from George R.R. Martin’s material.

Everyone who was SO EXCITED about this trilogy last year because of what they did on seasons one through five of Thrones is now saying “WELL ACTUALLY THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH SEASONS ONE THROUGH FIVE THAT WAS ALL GEORGE!!!”. Fuck offfffff with THAT! Oh, and while we’re at it, didn’t you all claim season five was the worst one before it didn’t fit your “George R.R. Martin = good, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss = bad” narrative? Whatever, man.

I’m very much in favor of the Game of Thrones guys’ Star Wars trilogy, and I think you should be, too. Open to at the very least giving it a chance in return for the dozens upon dozens upon dozens of hours of entertainment they’ve provided us with for years now.

You want them to work off source material? Yeah, me too. I want them to work off Knights of the Old Republic material.
