The First Trailer For HBO's 'WATCHMEN' Series Is Here, And It Looks Nothing Like 'WATCHMEN'!

HBO dropped the first trailer for their new ‘WATCHMEN’ series today, “based” of course on Alan Moore’s critically acclaimed 1986/87 DC Comics limited series, annnnnd all it really did for me was make me question whether or not it actually is based on its supposed source material.

Sure, we’ve got folks in Rorschach masks…

…and (potentially) doomsday clocks countin’ down…

…but other than that? Not much else having to do with the comics – or 2009 Zack Snyder film – at all.

We sorta knew this going in, that they’d be giving us a *NEW*, 2019 interpretation of the books and characters in ‘em, when LOST/Leftovers creator (and ‘WATCHMEN’ creator/writer) Damon Lindelof said so last year, but I expected like slight variations on everybody to make them fit into our current climate. Nope! Seems they’re wiping the slate clean and starting fresh, with a whole new team of Watchmen. Not a bad thing, but certainly an interesting thing.

Visually, the show already looks stunning, and with Lindelof at the helm, writing this thing, I’ve got high hopes. Today’s trailer revealing how distant it is from the source material I love so much was just a bit of a shock. I guess it’s alright though, because I love the 2009 flick, and if this show blows (which it probably won’t), I’ll just pretend it never happened.
