People Won't Get Off My Ass For Clapping 1 & 3 Instead Of 2 & 4

So I put up that video yesterday of me clapping along to Eye Of The Tiger right after Tiger Woods collected his 80th win. It was a great moment. I was sitting alone in my apartment having the best time ever. Happily clapping to no one as my neighbors probably hated my guts. Well after I posted the video I instantly had a bunch of people tweeting me being like, “I’m happy Tiger won but you gotta clap on beat man” and “You know you’re a corn fucker when you clap 1 & 3 instead of 2 & 4.” I legitimately had no idea what they were talking about. I still kinda don’t. I don’t know what 1 2 3 or 4 has to do with clapping. I asked Pup Punk’s bass player Robbie Fox to help me understand what people were talking about. Even with his guidance, I’m no closer to understanding why it’s weird to clap on 1 & 3 instead of 2 & 4.

The crazy thing? I practiced the clap before I made the video. It wasn’t a one time a thing. I played Eye Of The Tiger and practiced clapping along to the beat. The clap I practiced was the exact clap you see in the video. So it wasn’t a one time thing. At no point did I think to myself, “Am I on beat?” Never even crossed my mind that I was doing it wrong. Wrong isn’t the right word actually. Differently. I was doing it differently. I’m white. I know that but who’s to say 1 & 3 is better than 2 & 4? Nobody, that’s who. Yeah I might have a brain tumor or it’s the color of my skin that’s making me clap on 2 & 4 but whatever. I will continue to literally march to the beat of my own drum. No one can stop me.
