Wake Up With An NBA Countdown: Best 50 Made Threes

2018 NBA Finals - Game Four

Good morning everybody, happy Monday! I hope you had yourself a great weekend, but chances are you’re also arriving at this blog more than a little hung over, with perhaps your favorite NFL team’s season already being over. Or maybe you had to play the highest scorer in your fantasy matchup and you’re a little angry with how stupid fantasy sports can be. Well since this is a day back in the cubes where we all could feel a little better, we know that means when it comes to today’s video, we need something dominant and it needs to take up a majority of our morning. That’s why it’s a no brainer we go with today’s selection, the shot that has revolutionized offenses around the league:

The made three pointer.

If it feels like there are more threes nowadays, it’s probably because there are. Teams averaged a total of 29.0 3PA a year last year which just so happens to be the most attempted in history, and they collectively shot 36% from deep, which just so happens to be the 3rd best percentage ever. Teams have been making more 3PM a year every year since the 2012-13 season where we saw them make 7..2 a night, to this past year with that number jumping to 10.5 3PM. It’s also no surprise that last season was the second best collective Ortg (108.6), which just trailed the 2016-17 season (108.8), where we saw a similar offensive approach as we have now.

It’s pretty clear, if you want to be successful in today’s NBA, you have to be able to take and make threes. It now doesn’t matter what position you are, if you aren’t able to stretch the floor and make the defense respect your outside shot, you’re going to be a step behind and probably not play that much unless you do something else at an elite level. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking guards, wings, bigs, they all realize the trend of the league and have been putting in the work to make the outside shot a true weapon in their offensive arsenal. You look at the top 5 seasons of 3PM, you’ll obviously see Curry/Klay, and just three seasons ago Curry set the record with 286. He had 402 in 2015. I think it’s safe to say that number is pretty ridiculous, and that most likely only Curry will have a chance to break that.

There’s few things as awesome as a big, momentum changing dagger three. I like to refer to them as a good old Fuck You Three. Sure you can dunk on someone, or you can break their ankles, but nothing quite breaks the spirit of an opponent quite like a big time Fuck You Three. Curry obviously has the most, but guys like Kyrie and Westbrook, and Harden among others certainly have their fair share.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this nice 12 minute video and it makes your transition into work today a little easier. As always if there’s any type of countdown you’d like to see just list it in the comments below. It can be a player, type of play, whatever.

Have a great Monday!
